Unity College Financial Aid Types of Scholarships

Incoming Students

Eligibility for the following scholarships is based on the student’s application for admission to the college. In addition, eligibility for some scholarships (as indicated below) is determined by information reported on the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Trustee's Scholarship

  • High school applicants
  • Determined by GPA and/or SAT and ACT scores
  • Enrolled full-time; must maintain 2.5 GPA to renew
  • $48,000 ($12,000 per year)

Presidential Scholarship

  • High school applicants
  • Determined by GPA and/or SAT and ACT scores
  • Enrolled full-time; must maintain 2.5 GPA to renew
  • $40,000 ($10,000 per year)

Dean’s Scholarship

  • High school applicants
  • Determined by GPA and/or SAT and ACT scores
  • Enrolled full-time; must maintain 2.5 GPA to renew
  • $32,800 ($8,000 per year)

Transfer-Trustee Scholarship

  • College transfer applicants with a 3.0 GPA
  • Minimum of 12 credit hours from previous institution(s)
  • Enrolled full-time; must maintain 2.5 GPA to renew
  • $40,000 ($10,000 per year)

Transfer scholarship

  • College transfer applicants with a 2.0 to 2.9 GPA
  • Minimum of 12 credit hours from previous institution(s)
  • Enrolled full-time; must maintain 2.5 GPA to renew
  • $32,000 ($8,000 per year) 

Legacy Scholarship

  • Incoming students whose parent or grandparent attended Unity College
  • Must maintain satisfactory academic progress to renew
  • $4,000 ($1,000 per year)

 

Returning Students

Unity College awards scholarships in academics, community service, leadership, or professional activities. Some scholarships require that you submit a Unity College Application for Scholarship, whereas others do not require an application, or are by nomination only.

When required, scholarship application materials must be obtained from and returned to:

George E. Constable Scholarship

  • Maine residents
  • Majoring in Forestry or Wildlife
  • Variable award

Grace B. Simmons Scholarship

  • Superior ability in mathematics
  • $100

Penobscot County Conservation Association

  • Majoring in Wildlife Management or Conservation Law Enforcement
  • Demonstrates academic ability
  • Pursuing a career in Wildlife Management or CLE
  • $1,000 each (10 awarded)

Allison M. Hall Scholarship

  • Junior or Senior
  • Demonstrates perseverance in overcoming adversity in pursuit of his or her education at Unity College
  • $1,500

David M. Purdy Scholarship

  • Significant civic involvement for betterment of community, campus, and/or beyond
  • Documented evidence and/or recognition of citizenship, community involvement, and stewardship
  • GPA 2.0+
  • $1,000 each (3 awarded)

Faculty and Staff Stewardship Scholarship

  • Junior or Senior
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental stewardship
  • GPA 2.0
  • Stewardship demonstrated through internship, independent study, service learning project, environmental action
  • $1,000

Non-Traditional Student

Community Service Scholarship

  • Demonstrated commitment to community service
  • Minimum age 24
  • Previously self-supporting through full-time employment
  • Financial need, as determined by FAFSA
  • GPA 2.0
  • Preference to Social Science majors
  • $1,000

Leadership Scholarship

  • Full-time students in good academic standing
  • Demonstrated leadership and willingness to help where needed
  • Nomination by Unity College Community member only
  • $1,000

Scholarship Funding Acknowledgments

Scholarships for Maine students who have attained superior scholastic achievement are made available through the generosity of The Betterment Fund, which was created by the will of William Bingham II.

The families of the graduating class and other individual donors also contribute to scholarships for Unity College students.

Private Scholarships

In addition to the aid opportunities above, there are dozens of private scholarships available to Unity students. These include opportunities especially for Maine residents.
