Syd’s most recent books are I Was Thinking of Beauty, his tenth poetry collection, and A North Country Life: Tales of Woodsmen, Waters and Wildlife, a collection of essays about his connection to the northern outdoors, many of which are set in and around Grand Lake Stream, where he has a camp.  In 2012, he was designated a “Conservation Hero” by Field and Stream magazine, and a previous poetry collection, Ghost Pain, was one of three finalists for the Pulitzer Prize. He founded The New England Review, and has held teaching posts at Middlebury, Wesleyan, and Dartmouth. He lives in Vermont, where he currently serves as the state’s poet laureate.
