December 2020 Commencement

October 13, 2020

This year has been one of change, uncertainty, and resilience. We will not, however, allow these unexpected challenges to stop us from recognizing a very important moment and celebrating the Unity College students completing their degrees with us this year. It is something we all look forward to! As we move quickly to the end of 2020, I want to share with you our plans to celebrate students graduating this December.

While we have chosen not to hold an in-person ceremony due to COVID-19, we are looking forward to making this an exciting and memorable time for our students and their families. Below, you will find an outline of our plans as well as information about how these students can help us make the most of this celebration.

On Friday, December 18 at 11 a.m., the Unity College website will launch a December 2020 Commencement webpage. It will be featured on the main Unity.edu website, as well as on our social media pages. The Commencement page will feature a pre-recorded full commencement ceremony, with the speakers that would have been a part of the in-person ceremony.

During this ceremony, each student will have their name read by their Vice President and will see their image and degree appear on the screen. This is a great opportunity to pause the ceremony and take photos in front of your dedicated slide in your regalia! We hope that this virtual celebration, while not exactly like the in-person experience, will offer each student their own moment to feel recognized by the College as well as their friends and family.

There are a couple of steps graduating students must take in order to fully participate in commencement:

  1. Apply for graduation. Students must complete the Application for Degree in their student portal by November 1 in order to be included in the December commencement and receive regalia prior to the commencement date.
  2. In the application, students will choose their regalia size and can expect for it to be delivered the week of November 16.
  3. Students are asked to submit a photo to be used during the commencement ceremony when their name is called. Consider sending a photo in regalia! Students can send their photo to marketing@unity.edu.

If students have questions about this process, they are encouraged to reach out to their Distance Education Advisor or Hybrid Learning Coach for assistance.

To our graduating students, I know I speak on behalf of everyone at Unity College when I say how proud we are of you! We are excited for what your future holds, and the ways in which you will put your Unity College degree to work to make the world a better place. You are the new generation of environmental stewards and leaders who will help to solve the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. I look forward to addressing you in December. Congratulations, graduates!

In Unity,

Dr. Melik Peter Khoury
President, Unity College
