How We Take Action for Sustainability
In each Sustainable Venture, partnership, degree program, and course, Unity brings sustainability to the center. As we’ve evolved from a small college to an enterprise with a diversity of education and business units, our work has remained grounded in environmental science. And we’ve walked the talk, leading in making net-zero commitments and taking action.

Sustainability Degrees for Sustainable Careers
Sustainability requires professionals from every discipline. At Unity, we continue to add new degrees as we answer the call for environmentally conscious learning. Our unique framework includes:
- Preparing students to take on environmental leadership roles in a range of careers
- Providing a liberal arts education through a sustainability science framework, for communicating and thinking critically
- Students use their local environments as living labs
- Stressing connections and collaboration across disciplines
- Engaging students in coursework such as project and financial management

Sustainability Action Across the Enterprise
At Unity Environmental University, we recognize our responsibility to model how a sustainable business can operate in a manner that supports fiscal, human, and planetary wellbeing. Here are some highlights of our efforts:
Operations
- Core functions (academic administration, IT, HR, financial, physical assets, and other services) are coordinated and standardized to optimize resources and practices
- Sustainable operations decisions are written into policy
Planning & Administration
- Differentiated tuition rate for learners in the military
- Focus on career pathways for all students
- Sustainability plays an important role at the senior leadership level and is woven into operations across the university.
Engagement
- All student and employee orientation programs prominently include sustainability topics
- Students can voluntarily sign a Green Pledge, “to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of any job I consider and will try to improve these aspects of any organization for which I work.”
