CL 2883- Exploring National Parks/Refuges/Forest in Alaska (3 Credits)

Students will have an opportunity to meet with employees, biologist, rangers and law enforcement officers to understand the different positions that work together to achieve their mission.  Students will have an opportunity to explore the federal lands by hiking in Chugach National Forest, wildlife viewing in Kenai NWR, view glaciers by boat in Kenai Fjords National Park and view wildlife waking up from a long winter in Denali National Park.

Fee $1700 (Non-refundable deposit of $700 due by January 17, 2020)

About the Instructor:

Lori-Perez-Unity-CollegePerez served as a Federal Wildlife Officer with US Fish and Wildlife Service in Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Maine.  As an officer, Perez was a member of the Special Operations Response Team which included advanced training, specialized details and responding to natural disasters. Perez was also an Investigator for the Waldo District Attorneys Office during which time she assisted with prosecution of state and local cases, as well as served on the Sexual Assault Response Team.



5/16/20 – Arrive in Anchorage Alaska

5/17/20 – Chugach National Forest – Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center – AWCC’s mission is to preserve Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, research, education and quality animal care.

5/18/20 – Traveling by boat from Seaward to Kenai Fjords NP to explore coastal rainforest, tidewater glaciers and wildlife viewing.

5/19/20 – Homer – Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge-Visitor Center – Meet with staff

5/20/20 – Anchorage – Denali via the Alaskan Railroad

5/21/20 – Denali NP – Bus tour through the park

5/22/20 – Alaskan Rail Road – Fairbanks-travel back to Boston
