“We finished our snowmobile skills course at Unity College Sky Lodge on Friday. The class was filled with Unity students looking to increase their snowmobile skills which will help them in future careers. The class was made up of students pursuing 3 different degree programs and all students look forward to using these skills when they graduate.”

We would like to thank Rachel Crater, Christina French and the entire Sky lodge crew who provided our class with outstanding facilities, lodging, food and superior knowledge of the Jackman and Moose River Valley. Nothing is better after spending all day in the woods to come home to a home cooked meal and a roaring fire in the lodge!

Thanks to Craig Gerry, Regional Recreation Safety Coordinator for the State of Maine IFW, who assisted with the course and certified all members of the class who successfully completed it. Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Recreational Safety, Michael Sawyer, also stopped by to speak with the members of the class. Maine Snowmobile Association director Al Swett spoke to the class.

Thanks to all of the Law Enforcement personnel who provided their time and expertise to the students during the week.
Maine Warden Service – Wdn. Tenney Coleman, Jackman District spoke to the students about snowmobile use as a tool in his daily patrols. He also led a night ride on Wednesday evening to point out some of the dangers associated with night time in the north woods.

Somerset County SO – Deputy Brian “Free Ride” Crater joined the class and lead a trail ride as well as assisting with the skills portion of the class

Maine Outdoors Sports – Ben Towle, Wayne Blaisdell & Staff provided the equipment and taught a trailside mechanical class. All of the students had the opportunity to take apart their sleds and work with common problems that happen while riding.

Last but certainly not least Customs and Border Patrol Agents Jeff Rankin & Ted Synder who took members of the class on a backwoods adventure along the Maine Canadian border. The students were able to see parts of Maine that are not typically seen and from the stories, they all had plenty of practice digging out stuck sleds.” – Mike Moody, Visiting Instructor of Conservation Law Enforcement.
