Application Dates

Unity College accepts applications on a rolling basis, year-round,  as long as space is available. But we do have preferred dates that help assure more time to work with you, and offer you opportunities to maximize your admission and scholarship potential.

Does the college require a minimum SAT/ACT for admission?

Unity College does not require the SAT or the ACT, nor a letter of recommendation, but does reserve the right to ask for these additional materials as needed to support a student’s application.

Is an interview required for admission?

An interview is not required, but it is recommended that you visit campus. We reserve the right to require an interview for any student seeking to be enrolled at Unity.

Must a prescribed curriculum be completed in high school?

It is strongly recommended that a student complete four years of college prep English, three years of college prep math (Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry) and two years of lab sciences.

Will the college accept the General Education Diploma (GED)?


Will the college honor a home study (homeschooled) program?

Yes. In lieu of an official high school transcript, students are expected to submit an academic portfolio consisting of the completed course of instruction and a detailed bibliography. You must also submit a high school diploma, either through Adult Education or a GED.

Does the college offer tutorial and other academic support services?

Yes. The college has a Collaborative Learning Center. This academic center provides instruction and supportive services to students.

Are academic scholarships available?

Yes, Trustee, Presidential and Dean scholarships are awarded at the time of application review to qualified first-year students. Transfer scholarships are awarded during the application review process to students with a qualifying GPA. More information can be found in Financial Aid/Scholarships.

What are the college’s strongest academic areas?

Unity College is distinctive in providing a strong liberal arts foundation for the study of natural resource-based sciences such as Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, and Outdoor Recreation. This liberal arts base ensures that students learn the critical thinking and communication skills that “green economy” employers are demanding. We are also one of the only colleges in the country to integrate sustainability science into all of our academic programs, teaching students to unify many areas of knowledge into real-world solutions.

Does the college offer an option between residence halls and apartment living?

Our four traditional residence halls are designated for first- and second-year students: Unity 3, Eastview, Westview, and Wood Hall. Learn more at Student Life/Residence Halls.

In what intercollegiate sports does the college participate (men and women)?

Men: basketball, cross-country and soccer. Women: basketball, cross-country, soccer and volleyball.

Does the college offer and intramural program and if so, which sports are the most popular?

Yes. Woodsmen, ice hockey, archery, ultimate Frisbee, and indoor soccer are very popular.

What are current expenses for tuition, fees, and room/board for 2020-21 academic year?

How do I apply for financial aid?

Those wishing to apply for financial aid must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

What attractions are within a reasonable distance from the college?

We are in the middle of everywhere. The small but vibrant town of Unity is within walking distance of campus. This is where you will find two of Unity College’s distinctive amenities—the Unity College Center for Arts and the Field of Dreams recreation area—in addition to grocery shopping, a laundromat, and a variety of eateries. Unity is also home to the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, a weekly farmers market, the Unity Raceway, Unity Pond, and a community market operated by our local Amish community (with fresh donuts every Wednesday).

In nearby Thorndike is The Unity College McKay Farm and Research Station, a greenhouse enterprise run by staff and students. The city of Waterville, offering movie theaters, shopping, and dining, is approximately 18 miles west of Unity. The Atlantic Ocean and Penobscot Bay are 20 miles to the east. Some of the best downhill skiing in the east is less than two hours away. A variety of other outdoor activities such as cross-country skiing, hiking, and nature trails are right outside your door.

Unity College: Sky Lodge, our newest multi-purpose facility, is located just a few hours from the Flagship campus, in the North Maine Woods. Here students find a home base for a variety of outdoor activities and classes.
