Why did you choose Unity?
Unity Environmental University provided a degree path that aligned almost perfectly with my dream career and afforded me the flexibility to continue to work and gain experience in the field while going to school.
What made your experience at Unity special?
Taking courses facilitated by incredible experts in their field really made the experience at Unity for me. I cherish the connections I have made with some of my professors and advisor, they were crucial to my academic career then and have the potential to help me in my actual career now!
Where has your career taken you?
While attending Unity, I worked for the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens in the education department part time and volunteered at Tree Hill Nature Center in my off time. During the last month of my program, I got a job as an Elephant Specialist at White Oak Conservation. After about a year working with the biggest land mammals on Earth, I was offered a job as an Assistant Curator at the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo. I am now in Gainesville, FL assisting in running the teaching zoo and help educate the future generations of conservationists and zookeepers.
How has your Unity education benefited you in your career?
The curriculum taught at Unity has offered invaluable knowledge in many field of conservation and has built an incredible foundation of wildlife and their natural histories. This foundation provided by Unity’s education coupled with my work experience will hopefully lead me to contributing to saving species.
What advice would you give to current students?
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and apply for that job you don’t think you’re qualified for! Also leverage the information specifically that you learned at Unity, it goes a long way showing an employer that you are competent and showed me how beneficial Unity really was to my career.
