Saving the South’s Tiniest and Rarest Turtles

JJ ApodacaDr. J.J. Apodaca, Instructor of Conservation and Genetics at Unity College, has been leading the conservation efforts at Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy in Asheville and is working to keep the Bog Turtles that inhabit this area from going extinct. Bog turtles are no bigger than a quarter and they are the rarest turtle in the North Carolina Mountains.

Dr. Apodaca is currently a conservation geneticist and founder of Tangled Bank Conservation, which focuses on conserving rare species nationwide.

The Garden & Gun Magazine features Dr. Apodaca’s work in the North Carolina Mountains in the “Saving the South’s Tiniest and Rarest Turtles” article.
