Credentials

M.S. in Historical Musicology

Amelia McElveen is a PhD candidate in Musicology at the University of Texas at Austin. She graduated with her Masters in Historical Musicology from the University of Texas at Austin and her Bachelor of Arts at Truman State University. Her dissertation focuses on Vietnamese American Catholic monasticism since 1975. Her theoretical frameworks are diaspora studies, syncretism, postcolonialism, and trauma theory. One of her favorite experiences at UT-Austin was her appointment as Assistant Instructor of Introduction to Western Music. Her teaching philosophy is the scaffolding method, and that college should be challenging but not traumatizing. In her spare time, she plays video games, reads fantasy novels, and hangs out with her dog.
