Ph.D. in Forest Resources, M.Sc. in Environmental Science and a B.Sc. in Economics
Dr. Carl Ureta holds a Ph.D. in Forest Resources with a specialization in Ecological Economics from Clemson University, as well as an M.Sc. in Environmental Science and a B.Sc. in Economics, specializing in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, from the University of the Philippines. His work focuses on the intersection of economics and environmental science to address climate change impacts and environmental degradation. Carl has contributed to numerous projects examining ecosystem service quantification and valuation, Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES), market-based mechanisms for biodiversity conservation, and developing climate services to support community action. With professional experience in both the Philippines and the United States, Dr. Ureta has also served as a Senior Specialist for Climate Change Adaptation at an international NGO, where he developed tools to translate complex climate data into actionable information for local communities—a process known as climate services. His expertise includes geospatial analytics, environmental markets, ecosystem service valuation and quantification, watershed management and conservation, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and climate services.
