Dr. Heather Dodds

Heather Elizabeth Dodds, Ph.D. is the Chief Operating Officer for the Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN). Dr. Dodds has current UX certifications and holds a master’s degree in e-Education in addition to her doctorate in Instructional Design for Online Learning from Capella University. She is a dynamic and experienced online instructor and presenter on design in virtual reality. In addition to supporting research-based uses of VR for education, she advocates for the design thinking and the story-telling model for use within VR development.

Dr. Dodds is a compassionate and enthusiastic research design advocate in virtual reality and cross-reality (XR) and the use of the metaverse. Within the past year she completed comparative research on sixteen social VR platforms. She has also authored two book chapters, one on the use of XR in STEM education and one for instructional designers guiding the use of XR in higher education. Dr. Dodds also contributed to the State of XR Report, soon to be published by iLRN. She has expertise in converting ideas to actions as evidenced by her being a founding member of the XR Women group and a founding chapter counselor for Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education. Her dissertation focused on the quantitative effects of virtual worlds (Second Life) on scientific inquiry skills.
