PhD in Experimental Psychology
Dr. Robert Flint attended Allegheny College in Pennsylvania where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and completed a minor in English. As an undergraduate student, he became very interested in the biological foundations of behavior and cognition, and while at Allegheny he received two summer pre-doctoral intramural research training awards from the National Institutes of Health to work for Dr. Elizabeth Murray in the Laboratory for Neuropsychology at the National Institute of Mental Health. Following his graduation from Allegheny College he attended Kent State University where he earned his MS and his PhD in Experimental Psychology specializing in Biopsychology. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate students and he enjoys teaching courses such as Foundations of Psychology, Biopsychology, Neuropsychology, Learning & Memory, Psychopharmacology, Sensation & Perception, and Motivation. He has also taught specialized courses such as Forgetting & Amnesia and Social Neuroscience. His published research has largely focused on the use of animal models to explore basic learning and memory processes, with a particular interest in the neural substrates of memory and the neurobiological components of stress-induced memory modulation. More recently he has been exploring basic learning processes in humans. Dr. Flint is also very interested in developing new pedagogical techniques that facilitate student learning and allow students to connect more meaningfully with the course material. Dr. Flint enjoys spending time outside with his family hiking, swimming, camping, and kayaking.
