Kristina Weighmink

M.Ed. in Adult Higher Education
Kristina has an M.Ed. in Adult Higher Education from Grand Valley State University and degrees in Anthropology and Multi-media Communications. Currently, she is a Communications Officer at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration where she develops strategic communications about public health policies and regulatory issues to reach target audiences with science-based information. She also develops communications for complex, high-profile public health safety issues, advises senior management on topline messages, responds to trade press media inquiries, aligns with the Plain Writing Act, collaborates with subject matter experts, and leads communication products through all clearance levels before public release. Throughout the last 20 years, Kristina has contributed her expertise in communications to further an agency’s mission. Her specialties include media relations, marketing, graphic design, and risk communications. Before the federal government, Kristina’s role was in local public health. She worked closely with environmental health experts, health educators, epidemiologists, and the executive team. She operated joint information centers for groundwater PFAS contamination and COVID-19 outbreak response teams using an integrated community approach that engaged interested parties by creating unified communications to carry out shared objectives. Kristina has received awards from the National Public Health Information Coalition, the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for her work in communications. She also has certifications from the CDC in Crisis and Emergency Risk Communications and FEMA’s National Incident Management System. Kristina has a passion for communicating current and emerging issues to protect and promote public health while leading others in pursuit of their career goals.
