Michaela RedCherries is a citizen of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and received a J.D. with a specialization in Federal Indian law from Arizona State University College of Law in Phoenix, Arizona, and an MFA in English-Creative Writing with a concentration in fiction from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in Iowa City, Iowa. As a licensed attorney, she practices Federal Indian law and advocates on behalf of tribal clients and their interests. As a professor, her teaching areas include but are not limited to, creative writing and leading creative writing workshops, where she emphasizes the study of Indigenous writers and poets in her pedagogy. Her debut collection of poetry is forthcoming from Penguin Books in 2024.
