MA in English Literature with a graduate certificate in Comparative Literary Studies and a BA in Literature
Shelby Hennessy earned her Master’s in English Literature with a graduate certificate in Comparative Literary Studies at the University of South Florida Tampa in 2022. She earned her BA in Literature at New College of Florida in 2020. Her areas of specialization include: Literature, Composition, Motherhood and Gender Studies, and Comparative Literary Studies.
Shelby Hennessy is a published author in multiple scholarly journals (i.e. the Journal of Mothers Studies and the Transatlantic Studies Network). In 2020, she wrote a 115-page undergrad thesis (see New College of Florida’s library website). Two of her papers were accepted by national conferences: SAMLA 2022 and SEWSA 2020/2021. She presented her paper virtually in SEWSA 2021. Shelby was awarded the Margaret Bates Award in 2020. She is TESOL certified as of 2020. As of recently, Shelby is a published poet.
Shelby Hennessy enjoys teaching writing courses. She taught composition to freshmen for two years at USF Tampa. She identifies as a writer herself and enjoys spreading her knowledge of writing to beginner writers. As an instructor, she loves Socratic discussions. Outside of teaching, Shelby enjoys spending her free time hiking outdoors with her children and dog or going for casual strolls with her harness-trained cat.
