About TIEP

Accelerate Your Future

with Career-Focused Education

Why we created the Technical Institute for Environmental Professions is simple. Many entry-level jobs are going unfilled due to a lack of skilled workers and those who do possess the skills and education are burdened with excessive debt. So, we built an alternative to costly degree programs by offering short-term credentials such as certificates and Associate degrees all at a lower cost. These programs offer quicker and less expensive entryways into the workforce for first-time employment, career changers, and individuals looking to upskill. Short-term programs can also serve as stepping-stones to more advanced and technical opportunities. By focusing on technical fields, this new institute will deliver the specialized training that leads to well-paying jobs in high-demand industries.

The Technical Institute for Environmental Professions at Unity College provides Associate Degree and Certificate programs through a competency-based study of the skills and knowledge for an empowered workforce, emphasizing interdisciplinary environmental stewardship. We have taken all the best features of in-person learning and combined them with the best parts of online learning to create an innovative experience designed to meet the needs of a modern learner. Our brand new highly flexible (HyFlex) classrooms are located at the Unity College campus on Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine. All our programs at the Technical Institute are leveraging the HyFlex model designed for busy learners.

Live classes supported with cutting-edge technology enable learners to participate in classroom activities and group work, as well as “hands-on” labs and projects. Leveraging state-of-the-art video recording and curating technology means that you can simply go back on your own time and re-watch your courses.

We are building our programs on the best practices and principles of Competency-Based Education and, by doing so, designing a curriculum that can respond quickly to workforce demand. A collaborative competency-based approach addresses evolving industry needs by delivering an accelerated and customized curriculum. Our use of technology is intentionally designed to remove barriers to earning an academic credential. We believe technology is the keystone to a learner-focused college experience. By deploying the best tech tools, we are building systems that allow faculty and staff to identify learner risk early and intervene to support. Automation, analytics, and communications with learners are more meaningful, precise, and relevant. All classrooms and labs are outfitted with cameras, speakers, microphones, and big screens, inviting learners from around the world and here on campus to join, in real-time.
