Emilie Stark-Menneg’s exhibition “Good Luck, All-In” presents a series of paintings and sculptures that reimagines the landfill as an arena for vibrant juxtapositions. Objects rub against each other that would otherwise never touch—pumpkins, pool noodles, flowers etc. Strange encounters, jack-o-lanterns spewing spray foam, birds alighting on one’s head and shoulders, become radical, hinting at an ability for all elements, plants, animals, and humans to communicate. She is particularly drawn to painting friends and family, depicting their wonder and curiosity as if they too were wandering around a heap of fantastical oddities. Throwing everything into her paintings and sculptures, she reveals a persona that is at once vulnerable and brave.

Stark-Menneg holds a B.F.A in Combined Media from Cornell University.  Currently, she lives and works in Maine. In 2014 and 2013 she had solo exhibitions at the Coleman Burke Gallery in Brunswick, ME.  She’s shown her performance and video work at the Johnson Museum at Cornell University and the Kitchen Theatre in Ithaca, NY.
