One third of the $6,000 in proceeds raised from the 7th annual Unity College Sportsmen’s Conference and Wild Game Dinner were donated for the benefit of the Maine Warden Service Association. The remaining monies were divided equally between Operation Game Thief and Get Back Outdoors, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting veterans.
Recent Conservation Law Enforcement graduates Emily Parker and Nicole Prescott volunteered at the conference and dinner, as did former Colonel of the Maine Warden Service and Associate Professor at Unity College Tim Peabody ’79.
A few weeks ago on the Unity College campus, Parker, Prescott and Peabody were pleased to present Maine State Game Warden Daniel Carroll, President of the Maine Warden Service Association (MWSA), with the donation earmarked for his organization. The funds will benefit the MWSA, which assists game wardens and their families in a variety of ways, from gift baskets to assistance during times of trial or tragedy. Scholarship funds to benefit the families of game wardens are also a part of the philanthropic work done by the Association.
“This is an incredibly generous gesture to benefit Maine Wardens and their families,” noted Carroll.
He praised the Unity College Conservation Law Enforcement program. “The program has consistently supplied the Maine Warden Service with well educated, talented, and committed professionals,” Carroll said.
Held at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts, the annual Wild Game Dinner sold out quickly and featured a five-course meal with a wide variety of foods for diners to sample. This year’s dinner was prepared by Chef Charlie Krause, a Culinary Institute of America trained chief who has held executive positions in some of America’s finest restaurants. Krause was assisted by Joe Saltalamachia, Senior Associate Director of Admissions at Unity College and organizer of the event.
The annual Wild Game Dinner was recently featured in Portland Monthly Magazine and has been listed among Maine’s top 20 “must do” events by the Bangor Daily News. It has also been profiled in other publications.
