One more service has been added for Unity alumni with the recent launch of a new web-based software program to assist in the job search process by The College’s Career Resource Center.

Under the Career Services section on the Unity College website, users can go to the sub page titled “Job Board” and find a link to the Career Central Network. This external site offers two job boards, one specific to jobs associated with Unity majors, and one that is linked to a national site with over 500,000 jobs. Alumni have the ability to login, and in a five-minute process, have access to the job boards as well as a comprehensive career development library. The online library provides written interview and resume building tools as well as podcasts, videos and printed examples.

“We began the process of looking for a more comprehensive career building resource two years ago, and researched and tested over ten products,” said Collins. “This new service is an investment in our students and alumni that will pay for itself, in both staff time and alumni and student time spent searching for positions.”

Collins is proud that the center is able to launch a program that will make a difference.

Users of this new service will be able to communicate directly with employers, post resumes for review, and network through Facebook. Additionally, alumni seeking to hire other alumni are able to post jobs to the system.

Collins estimates she helps about thirty alumni annually, giving up to six hours of counseling and individualized assistance per person. She also sees approximately fifty to sixty alumni at the annual environmental career fair hosted by Unity College.

“The Career Center has always had an open door policy to help alumni with job search questions,” said Nicole Lazure-Collins ’00, Unity’s career consultant and internship coordinator. “Now, we have more resources to improve the process.”

With the online career software, alumni don’t have to wait for assistance until Collins is in her office and available. Instead they have 24-hour access to a product that is backed by leading professionals in career development and is based on industry best practices.

This new resource will substantially increase the services of the Unity College Career Center and is a win-win for all.
