Unity College will host the 18th Annual Empty Bowls community meal from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4 at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts (UCCPA). The suggested donation is $10 per diner. The UCCPA is located at 42 Depot Street (off Route 202) in Unity, Maine.
The fundraiser will benefit the Volunteer Regional Food Pantry (VRFP) and Veggies for All. Both programs serve families across Western Waldo County. Generous support will be provided by the Unity Barn Raisers Community Meal Program, the Veggies for All program, Unitel, area growers and potters.

“This event emblematic of the growing capacity of both organizations to find new and innovative ways to serve the food security needs in this region,” said Jennifer Olin, Community-Based Learning Coordinator at Unity College. “The success of the VRFP and Veggies for All Program serves as a model for strong community-based strategies to address food security needs.”
Veggies for All is a project of the Unity Barn Raisers whose mission is to grow and distribute fresh local produce to food insecure households. Vegetables are distributed through a partnership with the VRFP and Unity College.
“In addition to providing local monthly food stores, the VRFP provides educational programming for its client base, including food preparation and preservation workshops,” noted Olin. “They also provide nutritional information about fresh produce, and gardening support and instructions.”
Unity College is a small private college in rural Maine that provides dedicated, engaged students with a liberal arts education which emphasizes the environment and natural resources.
