In a time when the green job market is exploding, America’s Environmental College is doing its part to connect environmental employers with students and other job seekers. Through the annual Environmental Career Fair, Unity College will bring over 100 different companies and organizations from across New England to the Tozier Gymnasium on March 6, 2018.

“One of the myths we hope to dispel is that working in the so-called green economy means working just for conservation non-profits or land trusts,” Unity College President Dr. Melik Peter Khoury said. “Organizations in all industries are coming to the realization that they need employees trained in sustainable principles and practices in order to compete in this, the environmental century.”

Some experts say that upwards of 70% of all jobs and internships are landed through a networking opportunity, and New England’s largest environmental career fair offers ample selection for anyone pursuing their passions in the green economy. Exhibitors include conservation groups, but also major private sector companies and public agencies engaged in law enforcement, wildlife and habitat protection, and more.

Employers are encouraged to take part in the education process for Unity College students and will have the opportunity to interact with underclassmen as well as graduating seniors. In addition to job seeking, students at the college attend the career fair to improve their networking and interpersonal skills and to learn more about the participating organizations in general.

“It takes real courage for students of any age to attend a career fair and interact with professionals in their field. Student participants will have the opportunity to seek professional advice, locate internships, refine their job search, and make valuable professional connections,” Unity College Director of Career Services Sharon Bannon said. “The green job marketplace is a growing field across the country and that trend shows no sign of slowing.”

Unity students apply sustainability science to solve some of the most pressing global environmental problems, including mitigating global climate change, and its graduates possess the strong critical thinking and problem solving skills needed by green industry employers. According to a recent alumni survey, 70% of Unity College graduates who responded were employed full-time or pursuing graduate degrees.

The environmental career recruitment event is free and open to the general public, though focused on current students and recent or anticipated college graduates. Employers will offer a variety of presentations and career-related materials, including equipment, applications, videos and personal testimonials from Unity College alumni.
