On Saturday, November 9, the Unity College campus was buzzing with visitors to the Fall Open House. There was a full slate of activities including a variety of demonstrations presented by the College’s five Academic Centers, giving visitors a sense of the faculty, students, and learning environment that Unity offers. One prospective Unity College student, Rose Edwards of Brunswick, Maine, had no idea what she was getting herself into when she walked into a demonstration on video production. Little did she know that she would begin working on her first college assignment.

At 1:15 pm, Director for the Center for Environmental Arts and Humanities Professor John Zavodny started his demonstration by explaining how to use the Canon Vixia HD video camera and also gave advice on how to frame shots for documentary filmmaking. Less than 30 minutes later Rose, video camera in hand, and Zavodny set off, going around campus where Rose was able to capture engaging material of people petting hedgehogs, tracking squirrels, and blowing up soda bottles.
