Celebrating the Class of May 2021
May 11, 2021
Greetings!
May is certainly an exciting month at Unity College, as we eagerly await the opportunity to celebrate our most recent graduates. In preparing for this weekend’s commencement, I am reminded of the graduation ceremonies I have had the pleasure of participating in at Unity College. When is the last time you thought about your Unity College graduation? Can you still hear the bagpipes ushering you in? Do you remember the cheering and clapping as you crossed the stage? What about sharing memories and talking about the future with your classmates once the ceremony had ended, and the rest of your lives were about to begin? A special time indeed!
While we made the difficult decision to hold a virtual commencement this May, with the safety of everyone involved kept front of mind, this in no way lessens the importance of this momentous occasion for this graduating class. This graduating class has endured hardships and overcome obstacles on a broad scale unlike any graduating class before them. These students held on through extenuating circumstances as each of their lives were impacted by a pandemic that could have easily derailed their education journey. We at Unity College could not be more proud of this graduating class, and look forward to celebrating their successes for years to come!
Please join us in celebrating our May 2021 graduates on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. The virtual ceremony will be available through the Unity College website for all to enjoy as we recognize this graduating class, and the countless hours of hard work as they showed resilience and persevered in earning their degree.
This year, we are thrilled to welcome Danni Washington as our commencement speaker. Ms. Washington is the host of TV’s Xploration Nature Knows Best and co-founder of Big Blue & You, a nonprofit organization dedicated built to inspire and educate young people about ocean conservation using media and the arts. Ms. Washington studied Marine Science and Biology at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami, was the official spokesperson at the USA Science & Engineering Festival in 2018, and was named the 2018 Emerging Female Leader of the Year by EarthX.
In addition to this exciting commencement speaker, graduates will be recognized by Unity College leadership and the Board of Trustees. Each graduate will also hear their name read aloud as a digital depiction of their diploma shows on screen. I understand a virtual ceremony does not take the place of the in-person experience, however I hope our graduates will feel the importance of their accomplishments and how very proud we are of them.
As always, please contact us at development@unity.edu, with any questions or comments you may have.
With Pride,
Dr. Melik Peter Khoury
President
