FAQ

Common Questions About Military Benefits

Navigating education benefits can feel complicated, but we can answer your questions. Our staff are trained in military tuition benefits, flexible course planning, and career guidance.

A degree can help you qualify for officer positions since most commissions require at least a bachelor’s. It also strengthens your transition to civilian life by turning your Military experience into skills that employers understand. This opens more career paths both during and after your service.

The Military Benefits Guide explains the different types of benefits and how they work. To find out how to apply for the GI Bill and other VA education benefits as a Veteran, spouse, or dependent, visit VA.gov.

If you’re using Chapter 30 (MGIB-AD), Chapter 35 (DEA), or Chapter 1606 (MGIB-SR) benefits, the funds will be sent directly to you, not to Unity. You’ll need to either set up a payment plan or apply for financial aid to cover your balance before the term begins.

Yes! Unity Environmental University accepts Joint Service Transcripts (JST) for credit. You can request to have your official transcripts sent to Unity through the JST website.

If you have credits from time in the Air Force, we also accept CCAF transcripts. Electronic copies can be requested through Parchment.

For bachelor’s degree students, Unity considers a 3-credit term to be full time, as does Financial Aid. However, for students using VA Tuition benefits, full time is considered 4 or more credits.

Graduate students at Unity can enroll in 3 or 6 credits per term. While 3 credits will make you eligible for the maximum aid award, students using VA education benefits should enroll in 6 credits per term, as this is the course load required for full-time status.

You can still qualify for benefits coverage at 3 credits, but your housing stipend may be pro-rated. The impacts can vary depending on which type of benefits you qualify for.

If you receive orders that conflict with future terms, update your advisor with the dates, and they will adjust your registrations so you can take a break during those terms. No forms, no hassle! With multiple term starts a year, it will be quick and easy to pick right back up where you left off.

For sudden deployments in the middle of a term, Unity still has your back. Work with your advisor and instructor to determine your options to finish the course.

Yes! Unity is proud to have a strong track record of career attainment after graduation for our alumni. For 2024, we were ranked the #1 private university in the nation for social mobility.

We actively pursue preferred partnerships with employers across the country to support students and graduates in their career attainment. In addition, we regularly share opportunities for entry level roles and internships through email and in the LinkedIn Professional Network to take the work out of searching for roles.
