What does a career in Adventure Therapy look like? What are my options after graduating from the Marine Biology program? Can I make a living as a farmer in Maine?

These are just some of the questions that are running through the minds of students interested in Unity College, and on April 7, high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors and their parents and guardians will have the opportunity to get those answers, and also get a glimpse of what the future might hold.

Prospective students and their families are invited to Unity College for its annual daylong highly experiential Spring Open House on Saturday, April 7, where they will meet current students, faculty, and staff; experience their major; and also learn the full scope of courses and career paths the College offers.

“The curriculum at Unity College is a careful blend of theory and practice so we make sure prospective students experience that,” said Unity College President Dr. Melik Peter Khoury. “We see all of Maine as our classroom and Unity students get hands-on experience not only in Unity, but also at McKay Farm and Research Station in Thorndike, and starting this fall, at the historic Sky Lodge in Moose River. A Unity College education means getting out in the field and doing the work, not just studying in a lecture hall, and our open houses are a reflection of that.”

Known as America’s Environmental College, Unity College is providing leadership for higher education with its sustainability science focus for teaching and learning. Faculty at Unity College have earned Fulbright Scholarships, discovered new species, exhibited art internationally, consulted with international law enforcement, and won National Science Foundation grants.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the Tozier Gymnasium. Visitors will get a real taste of living and learning on a small, supportive, passionate campus. Students and their families will engage in academic workshops; enjoy meals in award-winning Wyman Commons; get answers about housing, wellness, and financial aid from student success professionals; visit the animal barn and animal rooms; and get the inside information about student life from current undergraduates. A community fair and campus tours will begin at 9:15 a.m. Brunch and academic experience sessions will be held from noon to 2 p.m.

“Unity is a really different kind of college, so it’s important that prospective students visit us in person. The Spring Open House gives families an opportunity to see what this community has to offer,” said Joe Saltalamachia, Director of Admissions. “Unity is the kind of place where once you visit, you know.”
