Dear Unity College Employees,
On October 11, 2019, our credit card company detected unusual activity associated with the college credit card account. The Chief Business Officer, Controller, Director of Human Resources and Director of Public Safety acted quickly to begin an internal investigation. They learned that credit card fraud may have occurred, they secured all account access and took other appropriate actions to ensure that College resources were protected. I want to commend my team for their swift, decisive, and judicious actions that minimized our exposure.
Concurrently, I contacted local and federal law enforcement to initiate a full investigation and I have been impressed with the level of coordination and professionalism as they continue to partner with my team.
We did not release a statement sooner at the request of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI to protect the integrity of their investigation. It appears at this time that the alleged willful wrongdoing is limited to one individual who is no longer employed by the College. Because this is an active investigation, we cannot share more at this time.
