Unity College sees unprecedented growth

August 19, 2020

I am writing to share with you some exciting news about the current state and future of Unity College.  We are proud to say that for the first time in the College’s history, there over 1,200 students currently enrolled in a Unity College degree!  Between Distance Education and Hybrid Learning enrollment, Unity College is educating more students than ever before.  We are also excited to share that our student population is more diverse than ever, comprised of students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and geographic locations who span a wide spectrum of ages and are at different points in their personal and professional lives.

You’ve read the articles and seen the news stories about small, private colleges closing due to their inability to pivot and adapt to the needs of a growing demographic of college students.  The higher education system has been largely unchanged for decades, while the needs of college students have changed dramatically.  The Enterprise Education Model adopted by Unity College in 2017, along with investments in technology and infrastructure, have allowed the College to create new ways to meet students where they are.  By focusing on accessible, affordable, and flexible education options through Hybrid Learning and Distance Education, students from all walks of life are able to see themselves as Unity College students.

As enrollment in the traditional residential model declines and the College faces a $12M shortfall, Unity College was able to pivot and adapt to meet the needs of this new demographic of students by giving them the opportunity to choose.  Students can choose where, when, and how to earn their Unity College degree offering ultimate flexibility to benefit students, rather than requiring them to come to us on our terms.  As the needs of college students continue to change, we will continue to offer options that make sense for them.

The Unity College mission has a wider reach than ever before, and continues to grow. We hope that as alumni you’ll share in this excitement with us as we work to graduate a growing number of environmental stewards and leaders to join you in tackling the environmental challenges of our time.
