Accessibility Services, Course Features, and Accommodations Process
Unity Environmental University is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible learning experience for all students, including those with disabilities, in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, and other applicable laws.
As a university that supports diversity of learners, we are dedicated to providing equal access for all students. To that end, the following accommodations are intentionally built into our accelerated learning environment and do not require a special request:
Flexible Scheduling: Courses are 100% asynchronous, meaning you will not be required to attend at specific times. This allows you to create a schedule that works for you while managing your own learning environment to suit your needs.
Consistent Assignment Deadlines: Since deadlines are a typical expectation in college, we have ensured that assignments in all courses are due on the same days (Wednesdays and Sundays, midnight PT), providing you with the opportunity to plan ahead and allocate enough time to meet your deadlines.
Advanced Syllabus Availability: Course syllabi and Week 1 learning materials are available the week before courses begin, supporting early planning for those who need extra time.
Early Access to Assignment Requirements: From the first day of the course, students can view all assignment expectations including the final project, allowing for self-paced progress in meeting deadlines without the need for extended time.
Accessible Course Content: A screen reader is embedded in all courses and materials are designed to be screen-readable, with captioned images and video transcripts for accessibility. Self-pacing and unlimited playback are available for all learners, eliminating the pressure to take notes during instruction. All course materials are provided in English only and assume a 12th grade equivalency in reading and writing.
Digital Textbooks: E-books are utilized whenever possible, enhancing accessibility and reducing material costs for students.
Low-Pressure Assessments: All quizzes and tests are untimed, and students can take them multiple times within the deadline with only the best grade counting. These assessments contribute 20% or less to overall grades, reducing or eliminating test anxiety.
For questions, further assistance, or if you are requesting reasonable accommodations beyond what is already provided through our course design, please connect with the ADA Coordinator. Additional accommodations are considered on a case-by-case basis for individuals in accordance with the law.
