Engaging With Others in an Online Learning Environment

Engaging With Others in an Online Learning Environment

To be successful in DE courses, you will need to use a variety of web-based tools to communicate and share ideas. Some of these tools will be new to you and you will have to invest the time and effort to become proficient with their use. This includes using Kaltura, the video recording software that is integrated with our Learning Management System.

At Unity Environmental University, we are committed to fostering an academic environment where evidence-based inquiry, critical thinking, and open-minded engagement are fundamental values. As a student, you will participate in a learning ecosystem where all members—students and faculty alike—are expected to critically evaluate ideas and perspectives using credible, examinable evidence.

Our sustainability-focused curriculum incorporates frameworks such as the Planetary Boundaries, providing foundational tools for understanding and addressing global environmental challenges. This academic space is designed to be nonpartisan and ideologically open, encouraging the thoughtful analysis of diverse perspectives, even those that may differ from your own. Both students and faculty are held to the standard of justifying ideas through rigorous evidence and intellectual honesty, regardless of personal ideology or political beliefs.

Unity students will be expected to engage with diverse people and ideas while adhering to the Distance Education Code of Conduct. This includes upholding honesty and maintaining respect, honor, and civility toward everyone in the learning environment.
