In Honor of our Veterans

In Honor of our Veterans

Colleagues,

As we take a moment to recognize Veterans Day, I reflect on the absurdity of war, but honor the bravery and fortitude of the women and men who answer the call. Right now, there are more than 19 million veterans living just in the United States, and on this Veterans Day, we honor every one of them. It is because of our Veterans, those serving now, and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, that the rest of us 312 million American citizens can enjoy a way of life so many others dream about. Their service and their sacrifice, deserve the utmost praise and support from coast to coast today and every day.

When President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill officially establishing November 11 as Veterans Day in 1954 he said, “Let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom.” Today, that sentiment rings as true as ever.  It is my absolute privilege, as President of Unity College, to ensure we honor and support our veterans every single day. As a college, I am proud to see more and more veterans choose an environmental education as a vehicle for change.

“I have always been a soldier, I have served with dignity;
Now I’m getting older, I can only dream;
When I make that final journey, I will turn my face to the sea;
In this world of changes, please remember me.” C. deBurg

So today and every day, I call on us and leaders from all industries and governments to continue to support our veterans through access, equity, support, training, education, and more. I do not say this lightly, as while I will never see the wisdom in war; I am proud that we at Unity College will always strive to support all those who answered the call.

With Pride!
