Recycling does make a difference
Many don’t feel that tossing a few items into a recycling bin makes enough of a difference to pursue. However, recycling is a very helpful and inexpensive way to improve the environment from home. It takes more energy and resources to make new things than to repurpose existing items.
Glass is one of the most recycled materials. The quality of glass never degrades and recycled glass is the main ingredient of new glass. Fun fact: recycling 20 bottles is equivalent to drying your laundry on a line for 6 months.
Sustainability does not have to be expensive
Implementing sustainable options and habits in a home is often viewed as being too expensive. In fact, there are a number of incentives that are offered to those who choose environmentally friendly electricity programs, appliances, and more.
One easy way to make a change is to replace incandescent light bulbs with LEDs. The energy-saving bulbs have greatly lowered in cost and can last for six years. Each bulb essentially replaces 6 that would have ended up in a landfill in addition to reducing the energy used to power them.
Small changes really do add up
Some feel that the changes made at home are too small to add up to a large impact, but they do. By making small adjustments and encouraging others to follow, change multiples exponentially to greatly benefit the environment.
