As we look toward the future of education, we face a fundamental question:
Are we preparing students for success, or are we simply ensuring they don’t fail?
There’s a critical distinction that some in higher education and the public might have lost sight of. The difference between providing access to opportunity and guaranteeing outcomes. True educational access means giving every student the chance to prove themselves against meaningful standards. It does not mean lowering those standards to ensure everyone passes.
The Marine Corps Gets It. Why Don’t We?
The military understands something academia has forgotten. Rigorous standards don’t exclude people; they hold them accountable. They reveal who is qualified. In Marine boot camp, there’s a bell. Ring it anytime. Walk away. No questions asked.
