Ten Things I Got Wrong as a Young Leader…

…And What I would have done different

I have been leading organizations for over two decades. I started young, confident, and spectacularly unaware of how much I did not know. I thought speed was vision. I thought agreement was alignment. I thought working harder than everyone else was the same as leading them well.

It was not.

I am writing this for the version of me who needed to hear it twenty years ago, and for the young supervisors and emerging leaders who are right now making the same mistakes I made. Not because I have it all figured out. I do not. But because I have failed enough, reflected enough, and adjusted enough to know the difference between motion and progress.

These are not platitudes. These are operational lessons. Each one cost me something.
