Unity College has signed agreements with four community colleges and is holding Instant Admissions Days at several of them in order to elevate two-year students to unique four-year programs at America’s Environmental College.

Unity College admissions counselors who can advise current two-year students how to transfer their existing academic credits will conduct these Instant Admissions Day events in November:

  • Mon., Nov 16: Greenfield Community College, Greenfield, Mass.
  • Tues., Nov 17: Central Maine Community College, Auburn, Maine
  • Weds., Nov. 18: Three Rivers Community College, Norwich, Conn.
  • Thurs., Nov. 19: York County Community College, Wells, Maine

“Unity College has recently dedicated an admission counselor to focus on facilitating the differentiated needs of our growing transfer student population,” said Dr. Melik Peter Khoury, chief academic officer and president-elect. “As community college students get comfortable identifying what they want to devote their college studies to, many realize our unique curriculum in sustainability science is a good fit for an array of fields they are already studying. Our Instant Admissions Days will help them explore that transition.”

Unity officials also recently announced new articulation agreements – rules governing how academic credits can be transferred – with the following schools:

  • Tompkins Cortland Community College (Dryden, N.Y.): Associate of Applied Science in Sustainable Farming and Food Systems to Unity’s Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Agriculture.
  • North Shore Community College (Danvers, Mass.): Associate of Arts in Environmental Studies to Unity’s Bachelor of Science in Biology.
  • North Shore Community College: Associate of Arts in Environmental Studies to Unity’s Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences.
  • North Shore Community College: Associate of Applied Science in Environmental Horticulture to Unity’s Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Agriculture.
  • York County Community College: Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice to Unity’s Bachelor of Science in Conservation Law Enforcement.
  • Raritan Valley Community College (Branchburg, N.J.): Associate of Science in Science/Mathematics, Biology focus, to Unity’s Bachelor of Science in Biology, Earth and Environmental Science, Marine Biology, and Sustainable Energy Management degrees.

“We’re looking for dynamic students to bring a unique perspective and personal narrative that will enrich the academic and co-curricular experience for all Unity College students,” said Assistant Director of Admissions Eric Farrell, Unity College’s transfer counselor. “I believe transfers and nontraditional students fit that bill.”

Farrell said the number of transfer students entering Unity College has increased 70 percent from spring 2013 to spring 2015, according to enrollment figures. From Fall 2012 to Fall 2015, 158 students transferred to Unity.

Transfer students who matriculate at Unity tell officials they made their decision in part because they got personal attention to ensure they receive the maximum value for their earned academic credits.
“At Unity, I have the flexibility to work individually with each transfer student before they even set foot on campus,” said Interim Registrar Heather McAnirlin. “My mission is always to help students build on the foundation of knowledge they’ve already created. Transfer students add a richness to the academic setting at Unity College as they bring unique perspectives, experiences and contribute new ideas and ways of thinking to our landscape.”
