Immersive Learning Where Students Are
September 29, 2020
Greetings!
During this challenging time amid our 55-year history, we have made some exciting changes as well as difficult decisions. Some of these are directly related to the pandemic, and others are in response to the changing landscape of higher education, exacerbated by the pandemic. As we continue to forge our path forward during this time of change, it is always refreshing to hear first-hand the positive impact of this work from our students.
Even with the pandemic keeping Unity College Hybrid Learning students at home this year, we continue to be energized by them. Dr. Aly McKnight, Assistant Professor of Wildlife & Fisheries Management, recently gave us a great example of how Hybrid Learning students are participating in immersive learning in their hometowns. Students in Dr. McKnight’s Wildlife and Fisheries Techniques Class were practicing their newly learned skills in navigation and survey design to develop and implement a “wildlife inventory” of a natural area near their homes. The topics ranged from aquatic reptiles in Virginia, waterfowl in Georgia, mammals in New Hampshire, rodents in Maine, and several other projects.
Dr. McKnight shared these selfies from her students. Their smiles make us smile, and serve as a wonderful reminder of what great students we have, and how passionate they are about their Unity College education!
We greatly look forward to offering in-person classes again once it is safe to do so, but during this time where students must remain at home we take comfort in knowing how well they too can adapt to changing circumstances.
As always, please contact us at development@unity.edu, with any questions or comments you may have.
In Unity,
Dr. Melik Peter Khoury
President
