Unity College in the News

March 23, 2021

Greetings!

This week, I write to you with some of the exciting media coverage and news stories coming out of Unity College recently.

As you may recall, last week I shared a story regarding the five Unity College students who were hired to fill more than half of the openings with the Maine Warden Service. We were thrilled to see that story garner interest from CBS-13 out of Portland who interviewed two of the newly hired students and myself for a news story which aired on March 17th. In the story, students spoke about their passion for working with the Maine Warden Service and how the flexibility of being able to continue their classes while taking advantage of this professional opportunity is a benefit for them.

Dr. Pamela MacRae, Distance Education Dean of Environmental Conservation and Research and Professor of Fisheries Ecology, was featured in a report about the potential dangers presented by invasive zebra mussels titled: Warning Issued in Maine Over Invasive Mussels Found in Pet Store Products. Dr. MacRae’s expertise is helping to shine a light on a serious issue. This story aired live Wednesday on NECN in Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and Rhode Island. The report may also be featured on local NBC stations throughout the country.

Last week, Unity College announced a groundbreaking partnership with MetaVRse to launch non-degree micro-courses. MetaVRse is a technology company with a mission to unlock the power of spatial computing for everyone. In alignment with Unity College’s focus on creating access to affordable and flexible education, this partnership allows students to learn cutting edge XR and 3D design and development technology, anywhere, anytime, as part of our new non-degree micro-courses which will include skills in environmental and sustainability fields.

I hope as a Unity College alum, you share my sense of pride and excitement in the stories included in today’s letter. Unity College is doing things differently in higher education, and as we start to see these changes benefit our students, we are also beginning to garner attention from new media outlets and partners who are excited to join us on our path forward.

As always, please contact us at development@unity.edu, with any questions or comments you may have.

With Pride,
