Work Experience = Credits!

Your work experience may count as credits toward your degree, saving you time and money.

Unity Environmental University Distance Education students may earn credit for relevant experience outside of coursework.

  • Graduate students can receive up to 6 credits toward their degree.
  • Baccalaureate students can receive up to 30 credits through CPL, with a maximum of 90 total credits when combined with transfer credits.

How To Qualify for CPL

  • Professional licenses and credentials
  • Portfolio submission documenting skills and knowledge
  • Exams, trainings, or certifications

Next Steps

  1. Contact your Distance Education Advisor to express your intent.
  2. Submit required materials (see list above) along with a $500 non-refundable fee per course. Federal loans cannot be used for this fee.
  3. Your submission will be evaluated within 30 days, and you will receive a final decision.

Portfolio Requirements

If submitting a portfolio, include:

  • Course Information – Learning outcomes of the course you’re challenging
  • Summary Sheet – Matches learning outcomes to your experience and evidence
  • Resume & Biographical Essay – Overview of relevant learning experiences
  • Narrative – Explanation of how you achieved each learning outcome
  • Documentary Evidence – Proof of knowledge and experience
