Dr. Michele Villinski
Global Expert in Policy and Applied Economics

Dr. Michele Villinsk was previously Professor of Economics and Management and Director of the Management Fellows and Environmental Fellows Programs at DePauw University where she taught, chaired faculty committees, advised students, and was an administrator for more than 20 years. She received her Doctoral degree in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota and her Master of Public Policy degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Her doctoral and master’s degree research explored water supply financing and pricing in Indonesia and Texas, and her career has focused on identifying interdisciplinary approaches to complex environmental issues. She earned her baccalaureate degree in political science at Carleton College, and she is a certified Project Management Professional.

Dr. Villinski has received multiple awards for her teaching innovation and attention to student learning. In 2009 she was a Fulbright Fellow at Surabaya University in Indonesia. Her experience and passion for understanding global perspectives and analyzing environmental issues led her to Unity, where she is excited to be part of the innovative distance education team. Having lived in Africa and Asia for much of her early life, Dr. Villinski fell in love with Maine many years ago and is thrilled that it is now her home.

Dr Janice Lao is an internationally multi-awarded environmental scientist and economist. At 30, she developed the initial mathematical and economic modeling that was the basis for international aviation’s carbon-neutral growth strategy. She also originated and led some of the “first in the industry” sustainable financial deals. Forbes Magazine has recognized her work, as one of the world’s most influential sustainability leaders, along with Fortune Magazine and others. She is a graduate of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom under a full academic scholarship with the British government and completed her PhD at Prescott College. She is an adjunct professor at Prescott College’s MBA in Sustainability and Head Tutor/Senior Associate at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
