
Unity Environmental University Celebrates the Opening of the New Dorothy Quimby Library
Honoring a Storied Past While Embracing the Future of Learning
Unity Environmental University is proud to announce the recent opening of the newly relocated Dorothy Webb Quimby Library on the University’s New Gloucester campus. Named in honor of Dorothy “Dot” Quimby, one of the first employees at the University, and a beloved figure who dedicated her life to fostering academic excellence, the library pays tribute to its namesake’s enduring legacy while expanding services to students across the nation.

The new Library, situated within the Freeport Hall Learning Commons, is a shining example of the University’s commitment to honoring its storied past while embracing modern technology and teaching practices. Now, both online and on-site learners can access a robust array of digital resources, reference services, and research tools.
“For years, Dot Quimby was more than an employee, she was the heart and soul of our institution,” said University President Dr. Melik Peter Khoury. “Her steadfast dedication, compassionate spirit, and unwavering support of our students helped shape the very culture of Unity. As we open this new library in her name, we honor her memory by ensuring future generations have the resources and support to thrive just as Dot would have wanted.”
The modern Quimby Library offers:
- A Dynamic Digital Library: Thousands of e-books, academic journals, databases, and multimedia resources accessible 24/7 for comprehensive research and coursework support.
- Personalized Reference and Research Assistance: Online research guides, ‘Ask a Librarian’ chat, and one-on-one consultations to connect learners with the right information when they need it.
- Interlibrary Loan Services: Partnerships with libraries nationwide to extend access to specialized materials and rare collections.
