Adam Beck
Adam Beck is an Online Adjunct Instructor in Arboriculture at Unity Environmental University. He holds a MS in Forestry from Virginia Tech, a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Policy and International Development from Harvard University Extension School, and a BS in Sustainable Horticulture from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he graduated summa cum laude. His areas of specialization include arboriculture, agroforestry, and woody plant healthcare. Adam’s research interests focus on the intersection of agroforestry and ecosystem services. He presented his work at the 2019 North American Agroforestry Conference.
Adam is a Board-Certified Master Arborist and Certified Urban and Community Forester working as a Plant Healthcare Technician at Hartney Greymont/Davey Tree Experts. In this role, he manages both ornamental and productive landscapes and trains new technicians in plant healthcare. Adam has also gained valuable experience and inspiration working among the collections of the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University and leading trail crews with the Maine Conservation Corps.
Haunted by a widespread gap in practical knowledge of tree care along his academic and professional journey, Adam is dedicated to equipping the next generation of professionals with the hands-on expertise and real-world knowledge essential for success in fields ranging from arboriculture and agroforestry to broader environmental specialties.
As an educator, Adam blends scientific principles with practical applications, ensuring students gain the skills and perspectives needed to excel in their careers.
In his free time, Adam enjoys cyclocross, tending his collection of crop trees, and hiking with his partner, Kora, and their dog, Izzy.
