Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology
"I like having the flexibility of the shorter terms and a variety of courses"

Why did you choose Unity for your degree?

I originally chose Unity for its focus on conservation in the environment. I was supposed to start in the fall of 2020. When Unity first went online during COVID, I did try another school for a year, but I realized I really liked your flexibility and the major options, so I ended up transferring back and graduating in May 2025.

What made your Unity experience special to you?

I like having the flexibility of the shorter terms and a variety of courses as well as the option to come to campus occasionally when I was doing hybrid. But my most amazing experience was probably my internship and my conservation course in South Africa. I interned at the Baltimore National Aquarium for a term and then I did your Discover Eden partnership program in South Africa. The fact that there was flexibility on what we did each term really helped to have these opportunities.

Where are you currently working?

I am currently getting my master’s at Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC in Environmental Science and Policy. I’m also an after-school tutor and running enrichment programs in science at the Washington School for Girls.

What did you learn through Unity that prepared you for your career?

I’m very glad that I took an intro GIS course at Unity because I’m taking it at the graduate level now and it’s so hard and I’m glad I had some preparation. Also, my internship was a great experience.

What advice would you give current Unity students as they prepare to enter the workforce?

Be patient. Finding a job in environmental science is not quite as easy these days, but they are out there! Especially if you’re flexible.
