"I really loved all the experiences I had at Unity"
Why did you choose Unity for your degree?
I picked Unity because it was a smaller college, and I like that. Also, partly because my best friend at the time was doing it, but I have also always been interested in the ocean and the animals in it. I liked the hands-on experience that was offered. Calling the professors by their first name, and I thought it was personal.
What made your Unity experience special to you?
I really loved all the experiences I had at Unity. I was able to go to Curacao and study coral reefs; I was able to go to Brazil and study their fisheries, hang out with local people in Brazil, and see Rio. As part of my Marine Biology course, I was able to grow coral and see if it would prefer different colors as a substrate. It was really cool to be able to do that; not everybody can say they got to grow coral.
Where are you currently working?
KICTeam Inc. as a quality manager. KICTeam creates cleaning products designed to improve performance and user experience for payment, print media, image processing & self-service technology equipment.
What did you learn through Unity that prepared you for your career?
My background is in science and scientific methods and research. That definitely helped me to develop that research and use bigger-picture thinking that I use every day now. As a quality manager, I’m always thinking of how I can improve this process. How can I help people improve their daily lives? It helps having that science background to analyze data, results, KPIs, or whatever is thrown at me that day.
What advice would you give current Unity students as they prepare to enter the workforce?
Life can take you in so many different directions, and that’s okay if it doesn’t work out, just don’t give up.
