Credentials
PhD in Biochemistry, BSc in Biochemistry
My name is Colin Mant. I was born in southern England just outside London. I received a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Manchester and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Kent at Canterbury. I then moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to the University of Alberta to do postdoctoral research, mainly on muscle regulation and developing purification procedures for peptides and proteins. I also became a hockey fan (Edmonton Oilers) on top of already being a lifelong Tottenham Hotspur Football Club supporter. Jump to 2001 and the laboratory moved to Denver, firstly to the old Health Sciences Center, followed by a move to the Anschutz Medical Campus in 2004. Until recently, I worked in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics helping with the development of novel antimicrobial peptides to overcome the major problem of antibiotic resistance to traditional antibiotics.
I have been teaching for 30 years, ranging from community colleges to universities both here and in Canada. The courses have encompassed biochemistry, general chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, cell biology and immunology plus chemistry and biochemistry laboratories. I have been helping to develop an online Introduction to Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry course for the past 2 years and have also been an online instructor teaching Medical Biochemistry and General Chemistry.
