Ph.D., M.A. in Sociology

Dr. Marnie E. Carroll is a sociologist with teaching experience and interest in areas such as environmental sociology, cultural uses of technology, and inequality. She obtained her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 2002, her M.A. in Sociology from New York University in 1997, and her B.A. in English and Applied Social Studies from the University of North Texas. She has taught at universities in the U.S., Switzerland, and Ireland, and spent five years living and traveling in Europe, which was a life-changing experience. Her academic publishing and research have been in areas such as communication, culture, and technology. Dr. Carroll has worked on many research projects, for example, one that helped underserved migrant K-12 populations in rural Colorado have access to performing arts education through online platforms; that created fuzzy logic models to help physical rehabilitation clients gain work-related skills, and that analyzed the impact of hotel development on local environments and populations. Aside from academics, she is a certified SCUBA diver and enjoys the ocean, hiking, museums, and movies as well as volunteering in her local parks service and with animals.
