Before you start, it’s important to understand the skills you’ll need to grow at Unity.

To succeed at Unity Distance Education, you need strong reading and writing skills. You’ll be reading complex texts, analyzing ideas, and writing essays and reports using evidence from reliable sources. Clear communication, grammar, and proper citation are important to succeed in your courses and future career.

In online courses, you’ll use web-based tools like Kaltura to communicate and share ideas, so you’ll need to learn how to use them effectively. Unity Environmental University values critical thinking, open-mindedness, and evidence-based inquiry, encouraging thoughtful analysis of diverse perspectives. Students are expected to engage respectfully with others, following the Distance Education Code of Conduct while upholding academic honesty and intellectual integrity.

Unity Environmental University ensures an inclusive learning experience for all students, following ADA guidelines and offering built-in accommodations like flexible scheduling and consistent deadlines. Courses are asynchronous, allowing students to learn at their own pace, with advanced syllabi and assignment requirements for better planning. Accessibility features, like screen readers, captions, and digital textbooks, support diverse learners, while low-pressure assessments reduce test anxiety.

3-credit courses require 27 hours per week for Baccalaureate students and 22.5 hours for Graduate students. While courses are asynchronous, they aren’t self-paced, and inactivity may lead to administrative withdrawal. Assignments are usually due by Monday, with discussion posts due by Thursday and responses due by Monday.

Financial aid includes grants and loans, but if you decline loans, you’re responsible for the remaining balance. Tuition expenses range from $11,200–$14,100 per year for Baccalaureate students and $8,250–$16,500 for Graduate students. You’ll be billed every 5 weeks for Baccalaureate or 8 weeks for Graduate courses, and any remaining balance must be paid before the term starts or covered by a payment plan.

Before taking online courses at Unity Environmental University, students need a computer that is no more than 5 years old with specific hardware and internet speed requirements. Students must also have basic computer skills like using email, productivity software, and navigating the internet. GIS students need additional software like ArcGIS Pro and Microsoft Office, along with consistent high-speed internet access.
