Clear and Direct
We speak honestly about ecological and economic realities.
Yesterday’s business models (and yesterday’s business education) are no longer adequate. The future belongs to leaders who can:
The Couri Graduate School of Business is built on a simple truth: businesses thrive when they support the systems that sustain them. Our programs prepare students to make strategic decisions that drive adaptive organizations and deliver measurable, long-term impact. Sustainability isn’t an add-on. It’s the guiding principle for modern business.
“We go beyond the traditional Triple Bottom Line and equip graduates with the integrative thinking required in today’s interconnected world, grounded in climate science, systems thinking, ecological literacy, and responsible innovation.”

How we approach business education at the Couri Graduate School of Business:
We speak honestly about ecological and economic realities.
Business decisions ripple through social, ecological, and technological systems.
We assume volatility, complexity, and rapid change.
Our curriculum is built around climate science and planetary boundaries.
Climate readiness is a competitive advantage and a long-term survival strategy.
These five pillars define how we teach business for a world shaped by complexity and constant change. They reflect what today’s leaders need to navigate uncertainty, manage risk, and create lasting impact. Each pillar is embedded across our curriculum and reinforced through applied learning.
Sustainability isn’t a specialization. It is the curriculum. Every course integrates sustainability thinking into strategy, finance, operations, leadership, marketing, and innovation.
Business challenges are interconnected, and so are the solutions. Our students learn how economic, ecological, social, and technological systems interact, as well as how to design strategies that create value across them.
Organizations must operate within planetary limits. Our graduates understand climate science, risk modeling, resilience planning, and science-based target setting. Climate readiness is taught as a core strategic capability.
Every business relies on ecosystems. Understanding biodiversity, resource cycles, and ecological risk is essential for designing viable 21st-century business models.
Performance excellence and operational execution ensure that strategy turns into results. Students develop the skills to lead teams, manage operations, and deliver outcomes in complex, real-world conditions.
Prepare to lead in a rapidly changing world where environmental uncertainty, stakeholder expectations, and regulatory landscapes require new types of business expertise.

This innagural, 3-week course challenges students to rethink the role of business in a climate-impacted world. Through systems thinking, regenerative design, and real-world case studies, students explore how organizations can create long-term value across complex systems.

The course includes a one-week, in-person immersion at Unity’s Sky Lodge campus in Maine, a property donated by the Couri family in June 2018, where students apply concepts through field-based learning, collaboration, and hands-on business design challenges.
Eligible students receive support from The Couri Endowed Fund to Reimagine Business, which helps offset room and board expenses during the Sky Lodge experience.
