FAQ

Questions? We’ve Got Answers

We’re here to assist you every step of the way. Our FAQ’s will guide you through what you need to know about Unity’s unique affordable, flexible class structure.

We offer 3 types of master’s degrees:

MS (Master of Science): A research-focused degree ideal for students who want to pursue a research-related career or a PhD.

MPS (Master of Professional Studies): A professionally-focused degree designed for students looking to advance or pivot in their careers.

SMBA (Sustainable MBA): A specialized MBA emphasizing sustainability and social responsibility in business leadership.

Yes. Unity is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), a voluntary, peer-reviewed, nonprofit organization that ensures institutions meet rigorous standards of quality and effectiveness. NECHE also accredits prestigious universities such as Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

We offer 5 terms throughout the year. Each term is 8 weeks long and courses are fully asynchronous (no set class times), with key deadlines on Wednesdays and Sundays each week.

You can take 1 or 2 courses per term, depending on your schedule and goals. Taking 2 courses (6 credits) lets you finish in as little as 1 year, while taking 1 course (3 credits) offers more flexibility and typically takes about 2 years. For each 3-credit course, expect to spend around 22.5 hours per week on coursework, readings, and assignments.

Along with your application, you’ll need to provide your college transcript showing a completed bachelor’s degree, the conferral date, and a minimum GPA of 2.25. If your GPA is below 2.25, you can still apply, but will need to complete a 500-level (or higher) course through our Learning Market and earn a grade of “B” or better before starting your master’s program.

MS and MPS programs require 30 credits, while SMBA programs require 36 credits. With five terms per year, you can take 3 or 6 credits per term, allowing you to adjust your schedule as needed.

No. Instead, MPS and SMBA programs include a capstone project, while MS students engage in a larger applied research project.

Past capstone research projects have included:

  • A Framework for Monitoring Nightjars in Maine
  • Brazilian Waterweed in Fence Rock Lake
  • Food Access in Denton, Texas
  • Impact of Riverside Homeless Encampments on Water Quality
  • Northeast Florida Land Acquisition Through the Florida Forever Program
  • Plant Palettes for Enhancing Biodiversity and Conserving Water
  • Pollinator Gardens
  • Recommendations for Improving the Pikes Peak Region (PPR) 2030 Sustainability Plan
  • The Future of Alaska’s Wild Places
  • The Twiga Walinzi Initiative
