Ph.D. in Microbiology
Dr. Matt Badtke is a broadly trained educator and scientist with over 12 years of higher education teaching experience. Dr. Badtke completed his B.S with a double major in biology and biochemistry from Carroll University (WI), and his Ph.D. in microbiology from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. The focus of his doctoral thesis was the molecular biology of the hepatitis B virus. Following the completion of his graduate studies, Dr. Badtke completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan studying protein fibers produced by E. coli and other bacteria. With an increasing desire to teach at the college level, Dr. Badtke accepted a teaching position at Jackson College, a community college located in Jackson, MI. Dr. Badtke currently serves as a Professor of Biology and Chemistry at Jackson College. Dr. Badtke teaches courses in a wide variety of science subjects, including biology, chemistry, environmental science, and public health. In addition to his teaching at Jackson, Dr. Badtke serves as a lecturer of biochemistry at the University of Michigan and an author and consultant for several publishing companies. Outside of the classroom, he is an avid runner, competing in several half or full marathons each year.
