Did you transfer to Unity College from another institution?
Yes, I attended a larger state school from 2004-07, then transferred to Unity College (2007-10)
Did you switch majors at any point in your college career?
Yes! I started as an English major at then transferred to Biology at my previous school, but transferred to Unity College for Wildlife and graduated from that program.
Any tips for Unity students who are in their first year or who may be undecided about their major?
Get out in the community, reach out and volunteer, try new things, get involved, and meet new people. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone!
What was your favorite thing about Unity College? Do you have a favorite tradition?
The community and friendships I made, the people really made it a great experience.
What do you miss most about being a Unity College student?
I miss learning new things. The classes at Unity College were fun and I learned a lot.
Did you complete an internship?
Yes, at Avian Haven in Freedom, Maine. I had a great experience and I still volunteer there on occasion!
Are you happy in your current career?
Very happy, I started as the Kennel Assistant and am now the Practice Manager at New England Animal Hospital in Waterville, Maine.
What are your long-term career aspirations?
Currently working to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager, less hands-on and more running the practice.
Is this the job you planned on having after graduation, or did you end up going a different direction than you thought?
I took a different direction. Originally, I wanted to work in a zoo or in animal rehabilitation, but I took the job at the veterinary practice because of location and salary and ended up being promoted and loving it.
Is there anything you would have done differently educationally?
I wish I had gotten more involved in the school’s activities and clubs.
Did you attend graduate school, or are you considering graduate school down the road?
I had thought about it, but am not considering it at this time.
Did you feel Unity College prepared you for your career?
Yes, the classes I took and the content directly correlate with what I do professionally.
